The Hawaiian Trail and Mountain Club
A $2.00 donation is requested for each non-member, age 18 or over. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
For hikes, we meet at Iolani Palace, mountain side, at 8 AM unless otherwise noted. For trail maintenance, call Mike Algiers, 422-1048. Please sign our release and abide by our rules.
We do not arrange transportation. However, you are welcome to arrange your own. You are cautioned not to leave valuables in parked cars.
Bring lunch and water on all hikes. Wear sturdy shoes and clothing. Extra caution may be required on some trails. You are responsible for yourself at all times.
Keep trails and lunch sites free of litter; treat trees and plants with respect and care. ALWAYS be careful with fire, matches and cigarettes.
Many of our hikes require special permission. For trails open to the public, refer to the State Forestry maps. Firearms and pets are prohibited on hikes.

shuttle to Makapu’u Point where we start the scenic traverse of the eastern Ko’olau
Summit. Expect a rocky trail with lots
of ups and downs and the ever present precipitous plummet to your right. Descend to Waimanalo on the somewhat steep
Tom-Tom trail.
What
could be better than to end this hike at our HTMC Clubhouse. Enjoy a post-hike activity of your choosing

across most of Wai’anae Valley, from the Lualualei overlook to Ala Kepau ridge
(where the road and trail end). You'll
see coffee, ironwood, lemon eucalyptus, allspice, sisal, and other strange
sights such as streams w/running water, terraces built by the ancient Hawaiians
and the house site of the Wai’anae Plantation manager. Just follow the yellow markers, or you may

again we'll climb the scenic switchbacks to the notch, cross Kaluanui Stream,
and head for the waterfall overlook and the Ko’olau summit. Be prepared for
stream crossings, serious mudholes, and a sometimes rough and narrow trail.
