Apr 4 Sun 2PM ANNUAL MEETING

Join your fellow HTMC members when they help to turn another page in the latest chapter of the club's history.  Wouldn't you like to be there when we convene the annual meeting that marks, almost to the day, 100 years since HTMC's incorporation on April 5, 1910. This is a big deal and you can be a part of an event that has historical significance for our island state. There will be club business to handle, but our minds and hearts will be focusing on our 100 years of hiking in Hawai’i.

Drive to the north shore for this pleasant woodsy stroll. The club first hiked this trail on April 14, 1935. Coordinators Dayle & Jacque Turner, ph 384-4821 or turner@hawaii.edu.

For information, call Bill Gorst, 235-2346.

Apr 18 Sun 8AM KAMANA NUI

Apr 24 Sat 8AM ‘AHUIMANU

(2 Mi/Novice/Valley/Kahalu’u)

An easy walk in the woods nestled behind a quiet neighborhood. Remnants of old stone terraces and a water flume lead us to a pool of clear water flowing from a hole in a dike. Coordinator Joyce Oka, ph 674-1459.

Apr 25 Sun 8AM MEMBERS ONLY KULEPEAMOA RIDGE 100-Mi

No Meeting @ Palace – Call Coordinator for Rendezvous Info

May 2 Sun 7:30AM MALAEKAHANA RIDGE

(10 Mi/Advanced/Ridge/La’ie)

This long uphill trail above La’ie begins on hot dirt roads, ten enters a thick guava forest, which eventually turns to native vegetation near the Koolau Summit (your goal). After an initial steep climb, we’ll access the CCC contour trail which leads leisurely (and lengthily) to the Ko’olau Summit, overlooking Kane’ohe and Ha’iku.  Ignore the sounds of H-3, or pretend it's a wild river cascading alongside the trail. Coordinator Patrick Rorie, ph 342-0617.

May 9 Sun 8AM WAIAU

(12 Mi/Advanced/Ridge/Waiau)

A tough, ungraded ridge trail to the Ko’olau Summit.  Only the stout of heart and fleet of foot will make it to the summit. The lovely native flora and summit views of Waihee Valley are worth it! Follow the abandoned irrigation ditch past tunnels and a dam, then zigzag and climb until you reach the summit overlooking Kahalu’u and Kane’ohe Bay. A mix of shadows and moonlight may conjure an enchanted evening of hiking on this ridge overlooking the Lanikai shoreline where from across the crowded concrete bunkers at the top you may find your true love.  There'll be some climbing but not particularly challenging overall on this ridge of loose and rocky terrain.  Strap on your head lamps, lace up your sturdy shoes, zip up your wind jackets and never let her go.
