the
trail on April 13, 1924, about a year after the Army completed
renovating the
trail and added the Waikane portion. Coordinator Arnold Fujioka, ph

Little
has changed since HTMC first hiked this lengthy contour trail on
October 6, 1935.
The lower portion is still a hot, dusty, jeep road, and the
upper portion
is a cool native forest. Midway along, a short detour to a
delightful
waterfall pool is an option. Coordinator Karen Liliker, ph 349-8336.

Although
the access has improved, Kawailoa is still a bear of a hike - long,
rough, and muddy. In its heyday in the 1930s, this route was
one of the
CCC's finest "sidewalk" trails to the Ko’olau summit. HTMC first
hiked the trail on May 12, 1935, about six months after its completion.
Coordinator
Peter Kempf, ph 384-2221 or 735-2220.
